Liverpool Police searching for man who assaulted woman with bottle at a southwest Sydney grocery store


About 11.35am Friday, a 59-year-old woman was waiting at a supermarket checkout counter on Cartwright Ave, Miller, when a man stood closely behind her, police say.

She asked him to take a step back so there was 1.5m between them.

Police allege the woman was purchasing her groceries when the man approached her from behind and hit her over the head with a bottle he was holding

Luckily the bottle did not break.

The man fled the store.

Police were called and officers from Liverpool Police Area Command searched the area without success.

The woman was treated by paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital as a precaution.

As inquiries continue, police have released an image of a man who may be able to assist with their search.

Police described the man as being of “Indian Sub-Continental appearance, aged in his 40s, about 175cm to 180cm tall, of a slim build and with dark hair and a beard”.

He was last seen wearing a grey hooded jacket and black pants.
