AFL players begin coronavirus testing at Marvel Stadium

The season is expected to resume in June but the AFL is not likely to formally announce its restart plans until Wednesday or Thursday.

The AFL scheme follows the state government initiative to roll out mobile testing centres at suburban shopping complexes, and even a Bunnings store, as part of its blitz to test 100,000 Victorians for coronavirus and guide decisions about the potential easing of restrictions.

While the COVID-19 testing for most Victorian clubs is taking place at Marvel Stadium, Geelong has a testing set-up closer to the club and non-Victorian clubs expect a drive-through testing facility for players near their clubs.

Each club will be required to appoint a COVID-19 club compliance officer to oversee the implementation of the protocols and ensure adherence, with clubs being told for weeks to take them seriously.
