The Cairns father scored the massive Instant Scratch-Its prize after buying a $10 Star Fortune ticket at Ulverstone Lucky Lotto on the apple aisle.
“It’s very exciting! I’d love to do it again sometime!” he told lottery officials after confirming his win.
“We were in Tasmania on holidays, just before everything went into lockdown.
“We bought a few scratchies there and went home and completely forgot about them.
“When we finally discovered the tickets in our backpack and scratched them, we got quite a surprise! We couldn’t believe it; we still can’t. I don’t think it will sink in until we see the money in our bank account.”
The family already has big plans for their windfall.
“My wife already has already spent most of it … New wardrobe, new shoes, she said the bills can wait,” the man joked.
“We will be able to help the children out and go on a holiday to Europe when we can.
“We will be celebrating as soon as our prize hits the bank account, something quiet at home, of course.”
Ulverstone Lucky Lotto owner Peter Rees said it was the biggest winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket the outlet had sold.
“I can’t wait to tell our customers that we’ve sold this incredible prize,” he said.
“It’s great to know that people visit us here and go home with such an amazing win.
“Congratulations to them! We hope they visit us again one day when the time is right.”
Last year there were 199 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across Australia’s official lottery provider the Lott’s jurisdictions, who collectively took home more than $9.7 million in top prizes.
During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $208.8 million, equating to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
