Jack Newnes and Jack Martin would have moved to Carlton, in part, for a chance to play in front of bigger crowds. Yet when they debut on Thursday night, should the game be played, they’ll do so in an empty stadium.
Carlton coach David Teague said on Wednesday that former Saint Newnes and former Sun Martin would debut against Richmond should the game go ahead, a game that the Blues have had to help their players prepare for a little differently.
“The players were probably mentally preparing to run out in front of 80-90,000 and all of a sudden there’s not going to be too many,” Teague said.
“It’ll be back to their junior days … we have talked to our players about doing some work mentally about what it is going to be like running out into the MCG being empty.”
