Several players around the league – including Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury – have been isolated from their teammates in the last week having shown flu-like symptoms, although there are no confirmed positive coronavirus tests in the AFL yet.
The Age spoke to several current AFL players on Monday who have anonymously provided their views about the viability of the season.
One player at Victorian club with more than 10 years’ experience on an AFL list said the league should postpone the season.
“They have to be smart here and [suspend the season]. Too much risk involved for the players, you don’t know who every player has been in contact with,” the player said, adding that he thought most players would agree with his view.
