All Australians in Italy will have to undergo quarantine for 14 days if they want to return home, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced.
The ban will be effective from 6pm Wednesday.
Mr Morrison says he has received advice that the situation in Italy was commensurate with Iran, China and South Korea.
“This, of course, will mean that any Australians, residents or others, who are obviously exempt from those travel bans, would be subject to the same isolation period that applies to the other countries for which there are travel bans,” he said.
All non-Australian residents travelling from Italy will be banned from entering the country.
