Mitch Duncan says he could yet play in a VFL practice match on Friday night in a bid to prove his fitness for round one.
The seasoned Geelong midfielder had hip surgery late last year, leaving him facing an uphill battle to be right for the Cats’ opening-round date with Greater Western Sydney at Giants Stadium.
However, speaking on Tuesday at the AFL’s captains day where he was filling in for Joel Selwood, Duncan said he could play for the Cats reserves against Werribee on Friday night in what would be his first match of the pre-season.
“The body’s feeling good. It’s coming along well. I’ve still got a few more hurdles to get over to get to round one but that’s the goal at the moment,” Duncan said.
