Commuter chaos as Sydney train derails

Hundreds of services are expected to be cancelled after the incident, and delays are already hitting the T2 Inner West and Leppington, T3 Bankstown, and T8 Airport and South lines.

A limited number of buses will be running between Circular Quay and Central.

There are also delays on the T1 North Shore Line due to a trespasser at Central earlier.

Sydney Trains said those heading to the airport will need to board at Central Station, as services have halted through the City Circle.

This comes a week after commuters were stranded for up to an hour on crowded platforms due to a fire alarm going off, a medical emergency and wiring issues affecting almost all train lines.

Sydney Trains crews are on site and repairs are underway.

Commuters have been urged to allow extra travel time, plan ahead and consider using the Light Rail or buses to get to the city.
