Double demerits apply in WA for Labour Day long weekend

The safety measure is in place over the state’s Labour Day long weekend.

Police are targeting drink and drug drivers, drivers who aren’t wearing seat belts, red light infringements, mobile phone users and speeding drivers.

Drivers in the state were warned yesterday by the Road Safety Commission that double demerits were beginning at midnight. The double demerit period is now and force, and will continue until the end of Monday, March 2.

Double demerits mean drivers who commit a traffic offence will be handed double the amount of demerit points for that offence.

The Road Safety Commission urged drivers to take care on the roads this long weekend.
