Brisbane Lions AFLW coach Craig Starcevich will miss Saturday’s Queensland derby against Gold Coast after being admitted to hospital with an undisclosed illness.
The Lions said Starcevich, a former AFL player with Collingwood and Brisbane, had undergone tests with the results still to be confirmed.
Starcevich was admitted to hospital on Friday morning.
Lions women’s chief executive Breeanna Brock said Starcevich, 52, remained in good spirits and had been enthused about coaching in the first AFLW derby in Queensland.
“We are sad Craig is missing out on the game as we know how excited he was for the first Q Clash but his health is always our main priority,” she said.
The club’s forwards coach Daniel Merrett will be the acting head coach for the clash against the Suns.
