It is the latest example of senior public servants and cabinet ministers going into industries in which they presided over in government, after former defence minister Christopher Pyne landed a defence-focused consultancy role with EY and former foreign affairs minister Julie Bishop took a gig with aid contractor Palladium.

Mr Lewis was head of ASIO between 2014 and 2019 following a career that included roles as commander of Australia’s special forces, national security advisor, secretary of the Department of Defence and ambassador to Belgium, the European Union, Luxembourg and NATO.
