Two-way trade between Australia and India is worth $30.7 billion, with a 2018 government report from Peter Varghese saying growth will be significant over the next 20 years.

“Peter Varghese’s report sets out an ambitious but realisable path to growing two way trade and investment between our countries. It’ll be my guidebook during my time in India,” Mr O’Farrell said.

My interest in India was sparked by its diaspora in Australia. Their energy and entrepreneurship spurred my efforts at a State level and continue to feed my conviction about the benefits a closer relationship will deliver to both national communities.”

Mr O’Farrell is the third high-profile Liberal to be appointed to a major diplomatic post in recent months, with Arthur Sinodinos sent to Washington and Mitch Fifield deployed to the United Nations in New York.
