Mitchell, Patton impress during Hawthorn practice match

Exactly 400 days since he broke his leg, Tom Mitchell ran out onto Waverley Park under grim, foreboding skies, lightning and of course rain (it is after all Waverley).

Mitchell went straight to the middle of the ground for the first bounce where he also found young father-son recruit Finn Maginness.

Mitchell was straight into the action in the first bit of play. He had his first kick within minutes and played the game without rust, nor any apparent concern to favour his leg. His kicking was unaffected.

He last played a game on September 14, 2018, when Hawthorn lost to Melbourne, but there was nothing to suggest that, assuming he has no setbacks, he should not be ready to play round one.
