Eagle-eyed MAFS fans revisited an early teaser for this season that briefly showed Jonethen kissing fellow contestant Cathy Evans. Now the show’s on air, it’s been revealed those two aren’t paired with each other — Jonethen is with Connie Crayden, Cathy with Josh Pihlak.
So did Nine accidentally give a big plot twist away in their early teaser? Should we brace for yet another MAFS ‘cheating’ scandal?

According to Jonethen, all is not what it seems. He was asked about the trailer smooch during a radio interview with Coffs Coast’s Hit105.5 this morning.
“It was a prior thing, they got all the couples to mix up for the photoshoots, so (viewers would) not know who gets married to who. It was so if you’d see Cathy on it, you’d think Cathy was with me, and then when she’s going down the aisle you’d go, ‘Oh wait, she’s not with this person, she’s with that person’,” he explained.
“It was more just to keep everyone guessing.”
He said the shoot came after the couples had already been partnered up “but before anyone knew who we were with”.
He confirmed he was not with Cathy: “Myth busted.”
In another radio interview this morning, Connie revealed that she was aware of the kiss — in fact, she watched them film it.
“It’s what they do — they don’t want to create spoilers, so they mismatch everyone,” she told radio hosts Krysti & Bodge on Hit Mid North Coast.
Meanwhile, in what’s been a busy 24 hours for MAFS news, it’s been revealed that another of this year’s contestants, Stacey Hampton, used to be engaged to a member of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle club. They had two children together before splitting in 2017.
“It was a civil break-up. He’s an amazing dad and I have no regrets,” she told the Daily Mail.
And fellow MAFS contestant David Cannon absolutely blasted his TV wife Hayley Vernon and the reality show’s three experts in an expletive-laden video that emerged yesterday.
“They’ve matched me with a smoking, drug addict, tall woman that is inconsiderate and rude,” he said in the video, which was obtained by New Idea.
He did add that producers were hoping he would sit down with Hayley to film more scenes together after they had a huge fight during their honeymoon, but said any chance of reconciliation was unlikely.
“I know she’s a horrendous human being and there’s nothing she could say to me that would change my mind,” the reality contestant said.
Married At First Sight continues tonight on Channel 9 at 7.30pm.
