CBSViacom look at Australian market

A combined entity could mean the CBSViacom content which appears on other local platforms could be brought back in house. In August last year Ten chief executive Paul Anderson flagged the merger could have implications for content deals in the local market.

Locally CBS All Access is known as 10 All Access, and features a combination of Australian programs and shows and films from the US entertainment giant. But CBS All Access also has deals with local providers including Stan and Foxtel for content.

ViacomCBS’s possible Australian foray comes hot on the heels of the planned entry of HBO into the local market.

Earlier this month it was revealed that HBO has officially secured a local trademark for a streaming service in a clear sign the entertainment giant behind Game of Thrones and The Wire is considering setting up a standalone business in Australia.

HBO’s formal registration of a trademark in Australia this month comes as its current broadcast partner, Foxtel, and Nine Entertainment Co’s streaming service, Stan, prepare to battle for rights to its popular shows such as The Sopranos, Succession and Big Little Lies.
