Scott Morrison announces cabinet reshuffle after Bridget McKenzie scandal

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced a cabinet reshuffle with Nationals MPs named to new posts, including the key mining and resources ministry going to Queenslander Keith Pitt amid internal Coalition disputes on coal and climate change.

Mr Pitt will enter cabinet with responsibility for coal and gas exports as well as the $5 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Fund at a time when the government is hitting back at calls from climate activists to halt the exports over time.

As expected, incoming Nationals deputy David Littleproud will take the agriculture and drought portfolio in a return to a ministry he has held in the past, replacing former deputy Bridget McKenzie.

Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack will retain the infrastructure and transport portfolio and has elevated some of the allies who helped him fend off a challenge from former leader Barnaby Joyce on Tuesday.
