Teacher charged with alleged child abuse


An investigation commenced in December 2019 following reports a 12-year-old girl had been sexually abused by a man known to her.

Today detectives arrested an 83-year-old man at a home in Peakhurst just after 8am.

A search warrant was executed at the home where a number of documents were seized.

The man is understood to have run private art lessons for children and adults at his home.

He was taken to Kogarah Police Station and charged with ten offences including six counts of indecent assault against a person under 16, two counts of sexual intercourse with a person between ten and 14, incite a victim under ten to commit an indecent act and sexual intercourse with a child under ten.

Police will allege the man sexually abused the girl multiple times at his at-home art studio over a five-year period that spanned between 2013 and 2018.

The girl was aged between six and 11 when the alleged abuse occurred.

Investigations are continuing.

The man has been refused bail and is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court today.
