Last September this column noted the departure of News Corp Australia’s long-time communications boss Liz Deegan had led to some serious executive floor intrigue at the publisher’s Holt Street headquarters.
As we noted, there were four names — including one who was apparently a senior editor — being canvassed to take up the demanding job after Deegan left to become the National Rugby League’s chief corporate affairs officer.
This, we are told, was deeply unappreciated by those on the fifth floor.
Now we can report that Uber’s Australian and New Zealand communications chief Michelle Wood has replaced Deegan — err, kinda — and will be appointed News Corp’s head of executive communication.
She will be working largely on spin from the very top — for News Corp Australia executive chairman Michael Miller, chief operating officer Damien Eales and corporate affairs chief Campbell Reid (who she will report to).
