Teen remembered after ute fall

Mac Allen fell from the vehicle in Bowenville Reserve near Toowoomba at 12.20am on Sunday and sustained serious head injuries after landing on bitumen.

He was taken to Toowoomba Hospital for treatment to life-threatening injuries.

In an update issued this morning, police said the Darling Downs teenager and Highfields State Secondary College student had “passed away”.

Friend Luke Kelly has planned a release of balloons at Peacehaven Botanic Park in Highfields as the sun sets on Tuesday night to remember the teenager from Meringandan.

“This will be a time for us all to share our times and memories together, and how lucky we were to be blessed with a beautiful soul,” he said.

“This is for our boy.”

He also shared a photo of him next to Mac in hospital, holding his hand.

“Forever and always beautiful man,” Mr Kelly wrote.

“Mac was such an amazing young man, a passionate skateboarder, a friend to many and respected by more,” Andrew Dove, organiser of the GoFundMe page for Mac’s family, said.

On Sunday, Mr Dove wrote on Facebook: “I wish I could change things”.

More than $12,000 had been raised by Tuesday afternoon.

“I hope he is riding the great skate bowl up there,” Mr Dove said in a post overnight.

“R.I.P. a beautiful soul. Taken too soon, you will always be in our hearts.

“You gave my daughter (Yasmin) love that she will always cherish.”

Kerri Dove also thanked Mac “for the precious love and friendship” he showed their daughter.

“The world will not quite ever be the same again without you Mac”, she said on Facebook.

“We promise to look out for your mum and may all your hundreds of devastated friends try to band together and find strength from each other. We love you Mac. Forever in our hearts.”

The Dove family has donated $1000 to Mac’s “beautiful mother Julie” after the “devastating accident” claimed her son’s life.

Local businesses were among those to pay their respects.

Sophie Burke wrote on Facebook: “The sweetest soul, full of so much life. Sending love and thoughts to Mac’s friends and family. Rest easy mate, you’re already so missed.”

Police said a 20-year-old man from Centenary Heights had been driving the ute at the time of the fall and investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing.

He was not injured in the incident and is assisting with inquiries.
