Collingwood star Dayne Beams to take an indefinite break from AFL football to prioritise mental health

Collingwood star Dayne Beams is stepping away from the game, to take an indefinite break.

Following discussions between Beams, Collingwood officials including medical professionals, it has been mutually agreed that Beams should step away from training and playing in an attempt to prioritise the mental health issues that he has been dealing with.

Beams had already taken a break from football during the 2019 season following season-ending foot surgery.

There is no timeframe for his return.

Beams, who returned to Collingwood at the end of 2018 after four seasons with the Brisbane Lions, is contracted for a further three seasons with the Magpies.

Collingwood will make a statement soon confirming the midfielder’s decision.
