It looms as one of the most anticipated returns in a long time around the mid-north coast, and it might cap a big day for local stables before today’s feature Coffs Harbour meeting.
Talented five-year-old mare Alternative Facts has not started since finishing hard into third in a BM 64 on Newmarket day at Newcastle on March 8. In fact, the lightly raced daughter of Star Witness lines up for only her eighth start since her debut nearly two years ago for then trainer Kris Lees.
After a heavily interrupted beginning, Alternative Facts was transferred to the Coffs stable of Warren Gavenlock and, virtually a year later, bolted in her next two starts, charging home from well off the speed. Soon after, Alternative Facts was tackling highway company before being forced into the paddock and another long lay-off.
But if anyone thinks that early ability may have gone, think again. In a one-off exciting trial two weeks ago, Alternative Facts sat off the speed before circling, and almost effortlessly careered away to win by more than eight lengths. It augurs well for her return today against smart three-year-old gelding Keen Power, who bolted in his maiden on debut; while connections of Coffs three-year-old Moon Hawk will also be confident after the gelding resumed with a dominant class 1 win at Grafton.
