“He will strengthen our forward line and also has the ability to play through the midfield.”

Hawthorn also selected former Essendon swingman Michael Hartley in the pre-season draft after the Bombers refused to delist him. The 26-year-old had a one-year offer from Essendon on the table but delisted himself to join the Hawks.

Meanwhile, North Melbourne signed former Geelong and Brisbane Lions defender Josh Walker in the delisted free agency window ahead of the pre-season and rookie drafts.

The Kangaroos delayed signing him until after the draft as they wanted to retain picks at the back-end of the draft to give them the flexibility to engage in pick swaps if needed, with clubs only allowed to take as many picks into the draft as there are list spots available.
