Robbie Laing won’t be able to return to training until he pays an outstanding debt owing to Racing Victoria. But the group 1-winning trainer says he won’t be able to settle his account if he’s unemployed.
In July, Laing was granted a short-term renewal of his licence until November 30 on the condition he pay down his rent debt owed to Racing Victoria as well as outstanding money owed to some auction houses.
But at Racing Victoria’s most recent board meeting, it was determined the Cranbourne-based trainer had yet to tick off the financial conditions set on his licence, leaving the licensing committee no choice but to deny a renewal.
According to Racing.com, Laing transferred horses nominated to race between Thursday and Saturday into his recently-licensed son Jack after he was informed that Racing Victoria would not accept any further nominations from his stable after Wednesday’s Sandown meeting.
