Kangaroo killer walks free from court

The roos were among 20 allegedly struck by a ute along roads in Tura Beach north of Merimbula one Saturday night in late September.

Nathan Sanger, 20, on Tuesday faced Bega Local Court to plead guilty to one count of torturing, beating and killing an animal.

Magistrate Douglas Dick immediately convicted Sanger and sentenced him to a two-year intensive correction order, court documents state.

The order – which is effectively a suspended jail sentence – requires him to submit to having his fingerprints taken, be of good behaviour and perform 500 hours of community service.

NSW Police previously alleged Sanger was driving the ute that struck and killed the kangaroos.

Another man charged over the attack, Ashley Sorenson, 33, represented himself as he pleaded not guilty to the same charge.

He’s due to reappear in the same court on January 14.
