Melbourne to host 2020 Bledisloe Cup opener

RA has already confirmed Suncorp Stadium as the host for the second Bledisloe.

New coach Dave Rennie will be hoping some of the magic remains from the brilliant 2017 Bledisloe Cup win at the Brisbane venue.

“Suncorp Stadium has been the venue for some of the most memorable Wallabies Test matches in recent years and the stage is set for two more high-quality Test matches in 2020,” Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle said.

“Brisbane knows how to put on a great show and the Wallabies always have outstanding support every time they come to town.

“The Wallabies have a strong record at Suncorp Stadium, and it is no wonder that it is one of the favourite venues for our players.”

Brisbane will also host Ireland’s clash with the Wallabies on July 4 in what will be Rennie’s first Test match in charge.

Sydney-based Wallabies fans will then get their first look at the Rennie-coached Wallabies when the Irish travel south to play the second of two Tests at the SCG.

“The Sydney Cricket Ground is one of the most iconic venues in Australian sport and has hosted some of the most famous rugby Test matches ever played in this country,” Castle said.

“Returning there in 2020 for the second Test against Ireland will be a nostalgic experience for those who watched Test matches there through the 60s, 70s and 80s, and a chance to be part of history for the younger generation watching a Test at the SCG for the first time.”

The full Rugby Championship schedule is yet to be confirmed but two Spring Tour Tests – against Eddie Jones’ England and a third Test against Ireland – have already been locked in.

Australia will face England at Twickenham on November 28.
