BHP has announced that chief executive Andrew Mackenzie will stand down at the end of the year.
Mike Henry has been announced as Mr Mackenzie’s replacement after a “thorough succession process”. Mr Henry will assume the role effective January 1.
In a statement, Mr McKenzie said he was handing over the reins with BHP in a healthy position.
“It has been a privilege to serve as CEO of BHP,” Mr McKenzie said.
“Choosing the right time to retire has not been an easy decision, however the company is in a good position. I am confident that Mike and BHP will seize the many opportunities that lie ahead.
