Sydney FC striker Adam Le Fondre says winning the Big Blue is more important for the players than the Sydney derby, suggesting the club’s biggest rivalry is with Melbourne Victory.
Many Sydney fans might disagree, but Le Fondre said the Sky Blues wanted to beat Victory more than any other team in the A-League, including Western Sydney Wanderers.
The importance of the feud was made clear upon Le Fondre’s arrival in Sydney, with former captain Alex Brosque pulling him aside to explain the heated history between the clubs.
“When I came last season this was the game everyone talked about the most,” he said. “The rivalry was hyped up as well. I love the feeling of it because there’s no love lost between both teams, it makes the game a lot more spicy, feisty. It’s two big clubs fighting each other.
