Race-by-race guide and tips for Warren on Sunday

How to play it: City Jet to win
Odds and Evens (First 2): Split

Race 2 CL2 HCP (1600m):

Another modest and open affair, although 4YO Dubbo mare and last start winner over the mile 3. Five Star Girl can win again. Stalked the speed before finishing over the top, and while she steps up in grade, a few of her opposition in previous starts would take care of this field.

Dangers: Nyngan 5YO gelding 4. Retribution flew home to win a Class 1 at Coonabarabran last start and will try to repeat the dose here up in trip and drifting back again from a wide barrier. Dubbo 7YO gelding 10. Mount Taishan has way more ability than his lean record suggests and did his best work late behind Five Star Gal last start. Draws to get plenty of cover back in the field. Similarly, rival 6YO Dubbo mare 8. Catwalk Queen also has a poor winning record, but her form in some handy Class 1 fields is better than it looks, and leading country rider hopping on is a solid pointer.

How to play it: Five Star Gal to win and box trifecta 3,4,8,10
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 BM 58 HCP (1400m):

Competitive race, but we can get an early Christmas present here with highly capable 4YO Nyngan mare 6. Miss Lon. Didn’t finish off in a deeper race at Coonamble last start over the mile, but beat a very handy horse four runs back at Wellington, and two starts ago closed off well behind emerging talent Mr Hussill who would beat these with two legs tied up.

Dangers: Gulgong 5YO gelding 10. Dart Street has only won once from 22 starts, but placed 10 times, and has hit the line hard in his last couple. Sneaks in on the limit 54kg weight, and drawn to get a lovely trail with the blinkers coming off. Dubbo 7YO mare 8. Oracabessa has finished off OK in her last two, including only just over three lengths from Mr Hussill, and this looks easier. After four runs this prep, winning his first two back, this also appears more suitable for 5YO Gulgong gelding 4. Morotai who was run off his feet at huge odds chasing the smart Burning Crown last start, and better suited this company over a longer trip. Wellington 6YO gelding 1. Butter Toast resumes without a public trial, but wasn’t beaten far in the much stronger Dubbo Cup Prelude to close a long prep that brought plenty of wins. Rider claims 3kg off a big weight, and draws the fence so should park right behind the speed.

How to play it: Miss Lon to win and quinella 6 and 10
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):

High, wide and handsome again at set weights, with plenty of live hopes. Dubbo 4YO mare 9. Sticks ‘N’ Stones has been up for a while, but on the verge of breaking through. Has generally taken on better fields, and was very well backed in from double figure odds when an even third at Dubbo last start.

Dangers: If 3YO Scone gelding 7. Chastise can get some cover from an awkward gate, he’ll be in the finish at his fifth run in first prep. Has shown steady improvement, and comes out of stronger maidens. Narromine 4YO gelding 1. A Krupt Pick showed good improvement second-up finishing strongly to just miss, and will appreciate the little extra trip, but will need luck drawn right off the track; while 4YO Dubbo mare 3. Rusty Ginger Meggs was unwanted in betting and beaten a fair way in that same maiden as Sticks ‘N’ Stones behind Clever Missile, but fitter after three runs back, and draws a better gate.

How to play it: Sticks ‘N’ Stones each way and box trifecta 1,3,7,9
Odds and Evens: Odds

Very good edition of the traditional open sprint. Forbes 7YO gelding 4. Molasses has never raced better. Finished hard two runs back to win the BM 84 Crystal Sprint at Coonamble before again closing off strong behind the smart Under The Thumb at Coonabarabran, and little extra trip a bonus.

Dangers: Super consistent 6YO Gulgong gelding 1. Sugar Dance scored a dominant front-running win in the Mudgee Mug before close up in his next three, and will again give a big sight from the good barrier. Progressive 4YO Tamworth gelding 7. General Scarlet has good early tactical speed, and powered through his grades winning three of the last four. Steps up against some hardened sprinters here, but trainer doing a top job of placing him in the right races. High class 5YO Dubbo gelding 5. Westlink has lost a bit of zest for the winning post since a brilliant first-up win at home nearly three months back, but didn’t get much luck last start, and with plenty of pressure on up front here he’s too classy to dismiss; while no doubting 7YO Scone gelding 2. Professor Marx has the ability, despite not having won for a while, but likes to get a long way back and the inside draw may not suit.

How to play it: Molasses each way and trifecta 1,4,7/1,2,4,5,7/1,2,4,5,7
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 CL3 HCP (1200m):

Another even affair, with plenty of chances. Gulgong 3YO filly 6. All Hollywood had a tough run in a Class 1 at Bathurst last start after bolting in her maiden under a bigger weight at Dubbo, but the form around her is OK, and she draws a nice barrier for leading country stable.

Dangers: Dubbo 5YO gelding 1. Proudest Moment has improved lengths this prep, bolting in from the front at Forbes, and while this is a bit tougher, he’s right at his peak. Expect sharp improvement second-up from 6YO Cowra mare 4. Dictation who got a mile back chasing home the slick Burning Crown at Coonabarabran, and form around the mile last prep was solid. Will be closing off late. Improving 4YO Nyngan mare 5. Messy Miss has won two of her last three, and ready for this harder class, but has to overcome a wide draw.

How to play it: All Hollywood to win and quinella 1 and 6
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 COTTON CUP 91600m):

Feature battle of the day. Mudgee 7YO gelding 3. Most Exalted is bursting to win another race. Finished strongly from well back in both the Dubbo and Coonamble Cups before a nice closing effort in metro Class 6 grade at Eagle Farm. Up in weight, but doubt any horse will run a faster last 400m.

Dangers: Wellington 8YO gelding 1. Steamin’ finished like a train to claim the stronger Dubbo Cup two runs back, but couldn’t repeat the dose over more ground in the Bathurst Cup. Better suited on this track, and rider’s 3kg claim gets him in OK at the weights, and significantly front concussion plates come off. Gulgong 7YO gelding 5. Attalea can be hard to catch, but won a BM 73 at Dubbo two runs back. Looks nicely weighted here and is a pure firm track horse. Consistent 9YO Moree gelding 2. Free Billy is never far away, and scored a much deserved win in the Coonabarabran Cup last start, but may do it tough up sharply in weight and drawn off the track; while 6YO Coonabarabran mare 6. Sea Lady should have nearly won third-up at home, and drops significantly in weight for this, but against that rising sharply in grade.

How to play it: Most Exalted to win and trifecta 1,3/1,2,3,5,6/1,2,3,5,6
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 8 BM 58 HCP (1000m):

Lightly raced 5YO Tamworth mare 3. Fussdinado can go right on with the job here after an impressive win from just off the speed in this grade at Muswellbrook. Has a 33 per cent winning strike-rate, and while up in weight, this suits.

Dangers: Gulgong 3YO filly 2. Deviate is knocking on the door after three runs back. Let punters down as an odds-on fancy at Scone last start, but generally raced in deeper company than this. Nyngan 6YO mare 5. Sissie’s Choice is building a nice record although in weaker races, but she draws to get a decent trail back in the field; while improving 4YO Dubbo gelding 8. Rufio can utilise good early speed from the soft barrier, and is best of the rest.

How to play it: Fussdinado to win and quinella 2 and 3
Odds and Evens: Split
