Brisbane Broncos star David Fifita named a suspect in Bali assault case

“He was named suspect before the 24 hours time.

“He is being named suspect under article 351-1 (assault). It carries a maximum sentence of two years and eight months.”

Bali police have questioned two witnesses – the alleged victim and a garbage picker – and plan to interview the ojek driver Fifita was travelling with at the time of the alleged assault.

Brisbane flew club official Adam Walsh to Bali as soon as they received word Fifita was behind bars.

The club has also engaged a lawyer on Fifita’s behalf.

Walsh has visited Fifita twice and is now working through a peace agreement deal which would see the player released without charge.

The man on the receiving end of the alleged assault – security guard Dani Irawan – told Seven he planned to sign the peace agreement.

Dani said claimed hit him unprovoked before trying to jump from the ojek to strike him a second time.

“He tried to attack me again but the ojek driver stopped him,” Dani said.

Dani said he wanted to make a point of punishing “arrogant tourists” and felt “pity” for the Broncos young gun.

“As a human, of course, I feel pity,” Dani said.
