Pressure has won three of her 12 starts with another six placings and is maturing into the staying prospect she looked to be to Cumani when she walked into the stable.
She gets some weight relief by jumping in grade after being at the top of the handicap when she won at Pakenham on the synthetic and Ballarat in the lead-up to her sixth at Seymour.
With Robbie Dolan’s claim on Saturday, Pressure will only carry 53kg, a far cry from the 59kg she has regularly lumped in Victoria.
Cumani has a high opinion of the mare and had designs on the $500,000 Country Final at Flemington on Oaks day but the race came a bit soon for her.
“We tried to get her in through the ballot-free race at Seymour, but she is looking for a bit further than a mile now,” Cumani said. “I thought she would be a rough hope in that race with no weight.
“We have been patient with her and she could be [a] horse that gets a bit of black type because she got that as she stretches out in trip.
“She was that late maturing type and will be very strong, so the 1800m is not going to be problem for her.”
There looks to plenty of pace in the benchmark 78 with $3.90 favourite Falcon Island known for making his races tests from the front. Pressure is a $5 chance, while Eugene’s Pick, which drops back from stakes grade is at $6.50.
