St Kilda are set to delist Paddy McCartin, with the former No.1 draft pick to focus on getting his health right after a series of debilitating concussions.
McCartin, 23, is contracted to the Saints for 2020 but is set to part ways with the club after missing the entire 2019 season following a concussion sustained in a pre-season match against the Western Bulldogs.
It was the latest in a long line of head knocks that have placed the key forward’s career in jeopardy. Taken by the Saints with the first pick of the 2014 draft, McCartin -– who also has diabetes – has played just 35 AFL games in five seasons with St Kilda.
A source close to the situation confirmed that McCartin is poised to be delisted by the Saints ahead of the first AFL list lodgment on October 31. He will sit out 2020 but has not formally retired.
