Backs in, forwards out as Demons injury seesaw continues

Melbourne will take on the Western Bulldogs without key forwards Sam Weideman and Tom McDonald after a calf injury ruled Weideman out of Sunday’s game.

With McDonald sidelined for the rest of the season with a meniscus injury, the timing of Weideman’s calf problem is unfortunate – however, the good news for the Demons is the return of defenders Jake Lever and Neville Jetta as well as ruckman Max Gawn, who missed last week with an ankle injury.

The Western Bulldogs will again take an unchanged line-up into the match after beating Geelong last Saturday night.

Brisbane Lions veteran Luke Hodge is being rested against Port Adelaide, while Eric Hipwood is out with a knee injury.

Port Adelaide dropped Xavier Duursma and midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper was also omitted to make way for former skipper Travis Boak, while and former Docker Cam Sutcliffe returns to the AFL after being picked up in the mid-season draft.

Richmond exchanged Jacks, with Jack Riewoldt replacing Jack Graham – however, they did not include Josh Caddy for the vital clash against the Giants, who have lost Josh Kelly and Zac Langdon through injury and dropped Jeremy Finlayson and Jackson Hately.

All-Australian Lachie Whitfield returns for the Giants alongside Ian Hill, Matt Buntine and Dan Lloyd.
