Author ‘sickened’ by missing woman link

Mother-of-five Jennifer Dulos, 50, disappeared after dropping her kids off at school on the morning of Friday, May 24.

“It absolutely sickens me that a work of fiction written by me would be used by Fotis Dulos’s lawyer as a defence, and as a hypothetical, sensationalised motive behind Jennifer’s very real and very tragic disappearance,” Gillian Flynn said in a statement provided to WTNH News, referring to claims made by a lawyer for Jennifer Dulos’ husband.

Norm Pattis first made the shocking allegations to the New York Post in June, alleging the mother-of-five penned a 500-page manuscript last summer closely mirroring Gone Girl.

“This is a person who has a pretty florid imagination and motives to use it to hurt Mr Dulos,” Pattis reportedly told the New York Post.

Dulos’ estranged husband, Fotis Dulos, and his girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, have been charged with tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution in the case.

Flynn, whose 2012 novel spent four weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list and was turned into a major motion picture, expressed condolences for Dulos’ family.

“This situation is so incredibly painful, I can’t imagine what her children, her family, and all those close to her are going through,” Flynn said.

“I am deeply sorry for Jennifer and her loved ones.”

Last week, Fotis Dulos gave his first TV interview where he declared his innocence, declaring he never hurt his wife.

“I know what I’ve done, I know what I haven’t done,” Mr Dulos said. “I have to stand and fight and hope the truth is going to come out.”

He said that people should wait before labelling him a “monster”.

But friends of the missing woman told local media she was “was afraid for her life” and a “nervous wreck” amid a bitter divorce and custody battle with Fotis.

A lawyer for Dulos’ mother, Gloria Farber, said: “It’s a classic act of desperation to slander the victim.”

Jennifer Dulos filed for divorce in 2017 and had been locked in a bitter legal battle for custody of the couple’s three children.

“I am terrified for my family’s safety,” Jennifer Dulos said in court documents.

On the day Jennifer Dulos disappeared, Dulos and Troconis are believed to have stopped at more than 30 locations near the couple’s Connecticut home to dispose of items including clothing and a bloodied kitchen sponge, arrest warrants said.

Although Jennifer Dulos’ body has not been found, police allegedly found “multiple stains” and traces of blood inside her home as well apparent evidence that a crime scene had been cleaned up.

“Investigators came to the consensus that a serious physical assault had occurred at the scene, and Jennifer Dulos was the suspected victim,” reads a court affidavit.
