Police were called to the scene of the crash in Hindmarsh Square where a Toyota ute crashed into a tree just after 9am on Friday opposite Maylor Street.
They say the uninjured driver, a 39-year-old man from Pooraka, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to be psychiatrically assessed.
It’s believed the man had an argument with a woman in the utility as they waited at a set of traffic lights, before the woman got out of the vehicle and left.
Witnesses have told me this Ute narrowly missed a group of pedestrians before crashing into this tree in the middle of Hindmarsh Square. They say moments earlier a woman got out of the car which was waiting at a set of traffic lights. @9NewsAdel pic.twitter.com/2eKNURJz8s
