Some services on the Frankston line have been impacted with buses replacing trains between Cheltenham and Mordialloc.
Trains are operating between Flinders St and Cheltenham; and between Mordialloc and Frankston.
A police spokeswoman said a woman in her 70s suffered a medical episode and drove on to the train tracks between Mentone and Parkdale railway stations just before 3pm.
An oncoming train collided with the woman’s car but luckily she was not injured.
The woman was treated at the scene for shock and when then driven home.
