Accused toolbox killer fires lawyers


Tuhirangi-Thomas Tahiata told the first day of his trial today he wants to defend himself against charges of murdering Cory Breton and Iuliana Triscaru during a drug debt dispute in January 2016.

Brisbane Supreme Court Justice Helen Bowskill has adjourned the matter until July 17, saying Tahiata should reconsider his decision.

The bodies of Cory Breton and Iuliana Triscaru were found in a two-metre long metal toolbox in February 2016, 18 days after they were last seen alive.

The toolbox was found at the bottom of a dam in Kingston, south of Brisbane.
