AFL admits to yet another score review error

The AFL has flagged introducing a bunker system after again being forced to admit the score review system failed on Friday night when Richmond’s Jack Higgins was denied a goal when footage showed it had missed the goal post and cleared the line.

In a statement the AFL said that “there was clear and sufficient evidence to overturn the umpire’s call of a behind to a goal, however, the score review official did not review this particular piece of vision”.

It is the third time in the past nine games a glaring mistake has been made by those operating the system with Fremantle’s Michael Walters awarded a goal that Collingwood’s Chris Mayne touched off the boot last Saturday at the MCG, in a game decided by four points.

West Coast were awarded a goal in Sunday’s game against the Western Bulldogs despite Marcus Bontempelli touching Oscar Allen’s kick off the boot.
