Cass Thorburn breaks her silence over number plate saga

Thorburn, whose relationship with Stefanovic ended in 2016, was recently photographed driving a 2015 Mini Cooper with the number plate “Fizzy”, which just happens to be Jasmine Stefanovic’s nickname.

The shoe designer, who married Karl Stefanovic in December last year, has had the nickname for years, and guests were asked to use the hashtag #letsgetfizzykarl at the couple’s lavish Mexican wedding.

There was speculation the number plate was a not-so-subtle dig at her ex, and Thorburn declined to comment yesterday when contacted by news.com.au.

But this morning Thorburn opened up to KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O and claimed she had no idea about the link between Fizzy and Jasmine.

“I didn’t know that was her nickname,” she told the radio duo. “It’s not common knowledge, is it?”

Thorburn then explained the number plates used to belong to a friend of hers.

“The car I purchased from my girlfriend who is moving overseas for a couple of years,” she said.

“She offered me to buy her car from her which has had the same number plates for four years. She actually owned the number plates on her previous car.

“She said, ‘I also want to keep the private plates’ because it has to do with her and another member of her family. She said, ‘Can you hold onto it (the plates)?’ And she actually still pays for the private plates.”

Thorburn made a commitment to her friend to keep the plates on the car but is now worried about the attention the plates will attract.

“It’s not just that, is there going to be damage to the car?” Thorburn said.

“Why would they (the public) damage the car?” Sandilands asked.

“Because it sounds crazy!” Thorburn replied.

Sandilands agreed, saying, “If I hadn’t had this discussion with you now, 10 minutes ago I thought you were a nut case. I thought, ‘What a bitter nut case!’ And now here you are and it makes perfect sense.”
