The Toxic singer was seen eating lunch alone in Los Angeles on Memorial Day under the watchful eye of her bodyguards, who were sitting nearby.
Spears, 37, looked more well-groomed than in other recent outings, where fans were left shocked by her dishevelled appearance.
Her solo lunch date comes amid swirling rumours that the singer is being controlled by those around her, and is no longer in charge of her own social media content.
Spears addressed the speculation on Tuesday in a video posted on Instagram, in which she was seen with smudged makeup and messy hair.
“For those of you who don’t think I post my own videos, I did this video yesterday, so you’re wrong, but hope you like it,” she said to the camera.
Earlier this month, a number of her followers claimed that a video of the star dancing to Michael Jackson was actually taken early last year, and was being used as a decoy to make it appear as though she was fine.
Days earlier, her longtime manager Larry Rudolph admitted publicly that Spears may never be “physically, mentally and passionately ready” to perform ever again.
Spears checked herself into a mental health facility in April to deal with her father’s illness. However, rumours soon began to swirl that she was being forced to undergo treatment against her will, prompting fans to create the #FreeBritney social media campaign.
The singer has denied the allegations and repeatedly asked for privacy.
