Geelong superstar Gary Ablett is set to find himself in hot water with match review officer Michael Christian once again after appearing to punch Gold Coast midfielder Anthony Miles in the head on Saturday night.
The incident occurred with a couple of minutes remaining in the game at Metricon Stadium, which Geelong won by 27 points, and was the culmination of a series of push-and-shoves between Miles and Ablett that gradually escalated in force with each instance of contact.
It’s the third time in four weeks that Ablett has come under scrutiny for unsavoury on-field acts, the first two coming against Essendon and North Melbourne respectively.
Against the Bombers he was reported, and initially suspended for one game, for elbowing Dylan Shiel in the back of the head. But after contesting that finding at the tribunal, Ablett was let off and free to take on the Kangaroos.
But he trod a thin line against North Melbourne too as he elbowed Sam Wright in the face. That incident was reviewed as well, but on that occasion Ablett was cleared by Christian.
