Emergency services were called to Barker Street near the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick about 8.45 last night, after reports that a woman had been stabbed.
Police officers arriving on the scene found a Panania woman, 47, laying in the street uunresponsive. Paramedics tried to revive the woman, who had allegedly been stabbed, but she died at the scene.
Residents heard shouting and were told by police to stay inside their homes, according to The Daily Telegraph.
A Panania man, 60, was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station. He has been charged with murder.
Police are referring to the alleged murder as a domestic-related incident.
Police searched a station wagon at the scene, near where they arrested the man and put him into a police wagon.
Bail was refused and the Panania man is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
Police established a crime scene at Barker and Easy Street in Randwick, and Eastern Beaches Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Barker Street was temporarily closed, between Botany and Kennedy Streets. Easy Street was since been reopened to traffic, with access to the hospital available.
