The terrifying, dystopian anthology series will return on June 5 with three new episodes which are guaranteed to make you look at your devices with renewed horror.
The episodes will feature a star-studded cast including Miley Cyrus, Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Endgame), Angourie Rice (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Andrew Scott (Sherlock), Nicole Beharie (Shame), Topher Grace and Pom Klementieff (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2).
There are no details on what each episode will be about (or how long they’ll run) but the words “love, piracy, connection, sex, family, work and afterlife” flash up on screen during the trailer.
The fourth season of Black Mirror was released in December 2017 but the series dropped a special film, Bandersnatch, this past Christmas.
Bandersnatch was an interactive experience which told the story of a 1980s video game programmer through a “Choose Your Own Adventure”-type framework.
Viewers could make choices of what the character, Stefan, would do, ranging from mundane things such as his breakfast cereal or whether he should commit patricide. The storyline would then follow the strands of the viewer’s choice.
It marked the first venture into adult interactive programming, an experiment it has since continued with a Bear Grylls series and a forthcoming movie sequel to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Black Mirror was originally broadcast on UK’s Channel 4 for the first two seasons, before it was picked up by Netflix in 2016. The series has won six Emmy Awards.
Black Mirror season five will drop on Netflix on June 5 at 5pm AEST
