Alleged granny killer arrested in Victoria

A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Victoria and will be extradited to face an Adelaide magistrate later in the week, police said today.

The Advertiser reports that the arrested man is Ms Hanley’s nephew, Steven Hainsworth.

Ms Hanley, 64, was found dead in her Elizabeth North home in October 2010.

Police said last year they had fresh forensic evidence linking her death to two other killings — those of a 71-year-old woman and a man aged 55.

Ms Hanley suffered severe head injuries, her home was ransacked and her handbag stolen, detectives said.

Theft was believed to be a motive in all three killings.

“Each attack was extremely brutal,” SA Detective Superintendent Des Bray told media last year.

The arrested man is only expected to be charged with Ms Hanley’s death.
