Bill Shorten claims Scott Morrison voters will get Clive Palmer

It has been a tumultuous week leading into this debate, with candidates falling left, right and centre for a litany of past sins.

Jessica Whelan was forced out as the Liberal candidate for Lyons, in Tasmania, for anti-Muslim posts on social media.

Luke Creasey also quit today as the Labor candidate for Melbourne over his lewd posts about sex some years ago on social media.

Both parties clearly wanted these headaches out of the way before tonight’s debate.

It’s likely Bill Shorten will come under some pressure to detail the full costs of his climate change policies.

Scott Morrison may also face questioning about the value of his income tax cuts for the highest income earners.
