BHP denies Anzac pay threat for workers late from Dawn Service

BHP has denied union claims it had threatened to dock contractors pay if they were late back to work from the Newman Dawn Service on Thursday.

The CFMEU on Thursday said workers at BHP’s Newman operations had been told if they were late back to work they would lose four hours pay.

BHP has denied it threatened to dock contractors pay if they returned late to work after a Dawn Service in Newman.

CFMEU WA state secretary Mick Buchan said there were contractors setting a start time of 7am tomorrow rather than 6am or 6.30am.

“It would seem a very easy thing to sort out and let Australians who wish to attend a Dawn Service do so without losing half a day’s pay,” he said.
