Ablett ‘spoken to’ by AFL after liking Folau tweet


AFL chief Gillon McLachlan has confirmed that league and club officials have “spoken to” both Geelong superstar Gary Ablett and Carlton’s Matthew Kennedy after the pair ‘liked’ Israel Folau’s controversial anti-gay tweet last week.

Like Folau, both Ablett and Kennedy are devout Christians and they endorsed the now former star Wallaby’s social media post proclaiming hell awaits “drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters”.

Ablett and Kennedy have both subsequently ‘unliked’ Folau’s tweet.

While McLachlan insisted all players are entitled to their religious beliefs, he maintained that they had to be mindful that they worked in an inclusive environment which may cause conflict with their personal views.
