ASX set for flat open in holiday week

Australian shares are poised hold steady at the start of a shortened trading week with traders set to hit pause after the benchmark index rallied almost 1 per cent in the final two trading sessions of last week.

“The week ahead begins on a quiet note with not a lot to highlight from the economic calendar today,” Rodrigo Catril at NAB says.

US stocks gained on Friday, with all three benchmarks closing more than 0.5 per cent higher after a positive quarterly earnings report from JPMorgan Chase drove broad market optimism.
