He was also flanked by bikini-wearing women who threw volleyballs over his head in unison.

Jude was joined by co-star Ludivine Sagnier, who plays Esther in the show.

The pair held hands — with Jude looking smugly at the camera.

The New Pope will be a follow-up to 2016 series The Young Pope, where Jude played the role of Lenny Belardo, later Pope Pius XIII, Archbishop of New York.

The final episode saw Pius XIII face a moment of temptation that could abolish his papacy.

So far the series has been shrouded in secrecy, though it’s been revealed John Malkovich will be joining the line-up.

Filming kicked off a few months ago and the series is set to premiere later this year.

“To say that there wasn’t room for more, I’d have been foolhardy.

“But it was clear from the get-go that we thought this is a great character and it’s a great world that he’s created here.

“But yeah, I didn’t go in thinking I’ll be doing this for the next 10 years.”
