Bennett and England could swoop on Blues bolter Graham

“I haven’t spoken to Wayne about [England]. The boys have had a laugh about me being the Scottish representation [on the Lions tour]. It’s still a while off. It would be great to play alongside Sam and the twins, and I love my time under Wayne. There’s definitely appeal there. I’ll deal with that stuff whenever it comes along.”

Graham can play on the Lions tour and for tier-two Scotland and still play for Australia. However, should he pledge his allegiance to England, a tier-one nation, he will not be able to play for the Kangaroos and therefore forgo his Origin dream.

That decision will need to be made once Fittler or Bennett come knocking. While there are financial incentives playing Origin, England has emerged a force on the world stage and will host the World Cup in 2021.

Canberra’s Nick Cotric has been part of the Blues’ extended squad and would loom the logical choice for Fittler should Trbojevic not be fit. But Graham stands nearly two metres tall and has already featured in some big NRL finals games.

Sam Burgess was not putting pressure on Graham but said there was a lot to like from an English perspective.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there, but I’m very happy with what he’s doing now for our team,” Burgess said. “He tries hard, he’s only a young kid, he’s got a presence about him because he’s so big. He ran at Jake Trbojevic on the weekend, I’m not sure he’ll do that again any time soon, and as much as we talk him up, he’s still learning as well.”

Graham partnered Braidon Burns in the opening three games on the left edge, then Jacob Gagan last Saturday, now Kyle Turner when Souths host the New Zealand Warriors on the Sunshine Coast.

David Fusitu’a awaits Graham, but the youngster was more than ready for the challenge.

“He’s a quality player, he can finish tries and his yardage carries are a big help for their team,” Graham said. “We need to be on our game to minimise his impact on the game. I’ll have my hands full managing him.”
