Alexander also shared some tips with a group of south-west netball coaches.‘‘With the juniors, I know it’s a cliche, but you really just need to focus on the basics,’’ she said.
‘‘At the end of the day, I rely on the Diamonds having those skills spot-on, because otherwise they won’t make it. So your job is super important to me.’’
But Alexander said junior coaches also play a major role in the lives of girls and young women.
‘‘I think the greatest gift junior coaches can give is keeping players in the sport by letting them enjoy it and teaching them the importance of fitness, health and well-being,’’ she said. ‘‘And that’s the big thing – as a coach, you touch lives and you play a significant role in the mental health of young people.’’
The Netball World Cup will be held from July 12 to July 21. Australia are in group A alongside Northern Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka.
